Scottish Premiership clubs face challenges after Euro exits and setbacks
Scottish Premiership returns with clubs grappling with European disappointments and domestic challenges ahead of key fixtures.

The Scottish Premiership resumes this weekend with ten clubs in action, following a midweek of European disappointments for several sides.
Hearts were the only Scottish team to progress in European play-off fixtures, while Rangers, Hibernian, and Motherwell all suffered defeats in the Conference League. Celtic, despite losing their Champions League play-off to LASK, remain in European competition via the Europa League.
Celtic's Champions League exit was particularly painful. After a 2-1 first-leg victory, they conceded five goals in the second leg, including a stoppage-time winner in extra time. Captain Callum McGregor described the team's performance as "passive" and "scared." Celtic now face Falkirk at home on Saturday in their first league match since the European setback.
Falkirk, bottom of the Premiership, last played two weeks ago and will look to capitalize on Celtic's potential European hangover. Celtic, unbeaten in their last five meetings with Falkirk, enter as favorites but must recover quickly.
Elsewhere, Dundee and St Mirren return to league action after two weeks without a match. Dundee have shown improved form recently, with consecutive 2-0 wins over Aberdeen and Dundee United, while St Mirren remain the only other team with a perfect league record after victories over Falkirk and St Johnstone.
Sunday’s fixtures include a clash between Aberdeen and Rangers at 12:00. Rangers, managed by former Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes, remain without a league win and have also exited two European competitions. Aberdeen, meanwhile, have started the season strongly with a league win over Hearts and a cup victory against Dundee.
McInnes faces scrutiny over his squad selection and tactics, with Rangers' recent 1-0 defeat to Jablonec in the Europa League play-offs further dampening morale. Aberdeen, the more refreshed side, will have home advantage.
Later on Sunday, St Mirren host Hibernian and Motherwell in back-to-back matches. Both Scottish clubs suffered midweek European exits—Motherwell lost 7-2 on aggregate to Freiburg, while Hibernian were eliminated by Gent after conceding two late goals.
With European distractions behind them, the Premiership returns with fresh challenges, testing the resilience of Scottish clubs after their continental disappointments.
