Uttar Pradesh IAS Officer Divya Mittal Resigns After 13 Years of Service

Divya Mittal, a 2013-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has resigned from the civil services after 13 years, as announced on social media platform X.

In a post on X, Mittal confirmed her resignation from the IAS, stating, “Today, I have voluntarily resigned from the IAS, bringing to an end an unforgettable journey of 13 years.” She did not provide a specific reason for her departure from the service.

Born in Rewari, Haryana, Mittal holds a BTech from IIT Delhi and an MBA from IIM Bengaluru. She began her career in London before returning to India to pursue civil services. She cleared the UPSC examination in 2013 with an All India Rank of 68, joining the IAS. In her first attempt in 2012, she had qualified for the Indian Police Service (IPS).

Mittal served as district magistrate in Sant Kabir Nagar, Mirzapur, and Deoria districts. Her tenure in Deoria was marked by efforts to implement government schemes at the grassroots level and by decisive administrative actions. In Mirzapur, she gained recognition for bringing tap water to Lahuriadah, a remote hill village in Halia block, for the first time in 75 years after independence.

Reflecting on her career, Mittal wrote that her experiences shaped her belief in duty and perseverance. “Deoria taught me that standing with what is right is not an option but a duty,” she stated, while recalling her time in Mirzapur as a reminder that “the impossible is not a fact, but merely an opinion.”

Senior officials in the Uttar Pradesh government told PTI that they had not yet received Mittal’s formal resignation letter, and that appropriate action would be taken once the letter is received.

Mittal’s resignation marks the end of a notable career in public service that spanned more than a decade across key districts in Uttar Pradesh.
