Trump Convenes White House Crypto Meeting With His Own Business Partners

President Donald Trump convened a White House meeting on Wednesday with cryptocurrency executives, lobbyists, and federal regulators to discuss policies that could benefit an industry that has become a significant financial asset for his family. The meeting, which included companies with direct business ties to Trump’s own cryptocurrency ventures, came just one day before the inaugural meeting of the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee (IAC), a 35-member body that also features prediction market firms with financial connections to Donald Trump Jr.
The White House event follows recent reports that Trump’s campaign has increasingly relied on cryptocurrency donations, with over $30 million received from the sector since the start of his current bid for the presidency. Among the attendees were representatives from companies that have either collaborated with Trump’s crypto businesses or made substantial contributions to political committees supporting his campaign, including the Trump-Vance inaugural committee, the super PAC MAGA Inc., or the White House ballroom project, a priority of the president’s.
Public financial disclosures show that several of these firms have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Trump-affiliated political groups. One attendee, Bitmain, a major cryptocurrency mining hardware manufacturer, has contributed at least $300,000 to MAGA Inc. since 2023, according to Federal Election Commission records. Another participant, Coinbase, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the U.S., has donated $250,000 to the Trump-Vance inaugural committee.
The meeting also included representatives from Ripple, a company that has faced legal challenges from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over allegations of selling unregistered securities. Ripple has donated $100,000 to MAGA Inc. since 2023. Additionally, firms such as Digital Currency Group and Kraken, both of which have either partnered with Trump’s crypto ventures or made financial contributions to his political committees, were also in attendance.
Ethics experts have raised concerns over the potential conflicts of interest arising from the president’s involvement with an industry that stands to gain from policies discussed in the meeting. "When the president is meeting with companies that have direct financial ties to his family’s businesses and are also major political donors, it raises serious questions about whether policy decisions are being influenced by personal financial interests," said a spokesperson for the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).
The White House has not publicly disclosed the full list of attendees or the specific policy proposals discussed during the meeting. A spokesperson for the Trump campaign declined to comment on the record regarding the meeting’s agenda or the involvement of businesses with ties to Trump’s crypto ventures.
The CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee, which will hold its first meeting on Thursday, includes several members with financial or professional connections to the cryptocurrency industry. Among them is Kalshi, a prediction market platform that has received funding from Peter Thiel, a prominent Trump ally, and has been involved in discussions with Trump Jr.’s ventures.
As the cryptocurrency sector continues to expand, the policy outcomes of these meetings could have far-reaching implications for its regulation and the broader financial landscape. The intersection of Trump’s business interests, political fundraising, and regulatory discussions has drawn scrutiny from transparency advocates, who are calling for greater disclosure and oversight.
