NBC journalists attacked as settler violence continues across occupied West Bank

NBC News journalists were attacked by masked assailants while reporting in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. The incident occurred near the village of Jalud as the NBC crew interviewed a Palestinian woman who described being forcibly displaced from her home by Israeli settlers. This attack follows a sharp rise in settler-related violence across the territory, with multiple raids, land seizures and injuries reported in recent days.

The Palestinian Authority’s official news outlet Wafa stated that the NBC team was documenting settler aggression when they came under assault. Palestinian officials condemned the attack and called for international protection for journalists covering the conflict in the West Bank.

In parallel developments, Israeli forces demolished Palestinian-owned land in Deir Ballut, further tightening control over agricultural areas in the region. Meanwhile, settlers accompanied by Israeli military units stormed religious sites in Awarta, local media reported. Such incursions often target mosques and shrines, escalating tensions during a period of heightened unrest.

Earlier, two elderly sisters were injured in an alleged settler assault in Silwad, according to local reports. Overnight incidents were documented in multiple locations including Arrabeh, al-Mughayyir, Burqa, Masafer Yatta, Khallet al-Hummus, Yasouf, Khalayel al-Louz and Nablus. These attacks reflect a broader pattern across the West Bank where settler groups, often with military support, have increased pressure on Palestinian communities through land grabs, property destruction and physical assaults.

Human rights organizations have repeatedly warned that such violence contributes to the forcible transfer of Palestinians from their land, a violation of international law. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has documented a significant rise in settler-related incidents since the beginning of 2024, with over 800 attacks recorded, displacing hundreds of families.

Israeli authorities have not publicly commented on the NBC attack or the broader wave of settler violence. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) typically cite operational needs when commenting on such incidents, but have not addressed specific allegations in this case.

Palestinian officials continue to call for international intervention, citing the failure of Israeli security forces to prevent settler attacks and protect Palestinian civilians. The escalation has drawn concern from the European Union and human rights groups, which urge accountability and an end to impunity for violent settlers.
