MPLADS: Telangana’s 23 MPs spend only ₹94 crore of ₹394.8 crore

Telangana’s Members of Parliament have utilized just 23.8% of the funds allocated to them under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) in the last two years, according to an analysis by the citizen-led project Empowered Indian. The state’s 23 MPs were allocated ₹394.8 crore, of which only ₹94 crore has been spent, well below the national average of 33%.

The analysis reveals that Telangana’s MPs recommended a total of 3,703 works, with 2,347 marked as completed, indicating a 63.4% completion rate. However, 1,356 recommended works remain pending. The spending performance among individual MPs varies widely, with the top five spenders being Nizamabad MP Arvind Dharmapuri, Mahabubabad MP Balaram Naik, Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, and Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay from Karimnagar.

Nizamabad MP Arvind Dharmapuri leads the state with 56.18% utilization, spending ₹15.81 crore out of ₹28.14 crore allocated. He is followed by Mahabubabad MP Balaram Naik at 49.20%, spending ₹7.23 crore out of ₹14.70 crore. Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra recorded 48.24% utilization, Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy at 42.65%, and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay at 38.01%.

On the lower end, Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender was allocated ₹32.74 crore but utilized only 10.60% of the funds. Among the lowest spenders are Renuka Chowdhury (2.08%), B. Parthasaradhi Reddy (2.43%), Kishan Reddy (3.23%), K. Raghuveer Reddy (4.77%), Asaduddin Owaisi (7.60%), Gaddam Vamsi Krishna (11.03%), and Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy (14.57%). Newly elected Rajya Sabha member Abhishek Manu Singhvi, whose term runs from 2026 to 2032, had not reported any expenditure against his allocated ₹7.34 crore.

Telangana’s utilization rate of 23.8% is higher than Andhra Pradesh (23%), Kerala (21.2%), and Maharashtra (20.2%) but trails Tamil Nadu (43.1%) and Karnataka (28.5%). The state also lags behind better-performing states, where utilization rates range from 45% to nearly 95%.
