Mitch McConnell's 75-Day Absence Raises Health Questions Amid No Updates
Senator Mitch McConnell has been missing from public view for 75 days, with his team refusing to provide health updates despite claims of ongoing rehabilitation.

Senator Mitch McConnell, the senior Republican leader from Kentucky, has not been seen in public for at least 75 days, raising questions about his health and return to the Senate. Despite initial updates suggesting a recovery plan, his team has provided no further details about his condition or expected timeline for resuming duties.
On August 6, McConnell’s office released a statement attributed to him, announcing his discharge from a rehabilitation center to continue intensive physical therapy at home. The statement mentioned that he would remain engaged in Senate business remotely. Two days later, social media posts shared by Alysia McMillian showed two MCombo lift recliners outside McConnell’s home, indicating mobility assistance needs. However, since then, his team has refused to offer additional updates. When pressed by HuffPost reporter Jennifer Bendery, spokesperson Stephanie Penn stated she had “nothing to add” to the August 6 announcement.
McConnell’s absence began after he was found unconscious and hospitalized on June 14. His office initially broke the silence on July 12 with a staged photo of him sitting in a chair with his wife, holding a newspaper. The accompanying statement, written in the first person, described a “mild case of pneumonia” during his hospitalization but denied reports of more severe conditions such as a concussion, heart attack, or stroke. A second still image was later released, but public demand for greater transparency persists.
In unrelated political developments, Wyoming’s Republican Governor Mark Gordon criticized the Trump administration’s monitoring of state elections, calling the efforts “aggressive” and “irregular.” Speaking at a canvassing board meeting, Gordon expressed concerns about federal observers questioning poll workers and attempting to interview voters during last week’s primary elections. Election officials in Laramie County reported that monitors arrived unannounced and asked about equipment and training, actions Gordon described as overreaching federal involvement. The controversy follows contentious primary elections in Wyoming, where candidates opposing election changes performed well.
Additionally, a Florida grand jury report revealed that Governor Ron DeSantis’s administration “misappropriated” $10 million from a state Medicaid settlement to fund lobbying against a marijuana legalization ballot measure. The funds, intended for low-income children’s health insurance, were allegedly redirected through a charity linked to DeSantis’s wife before being used in anti-legalization campaigns.
