Kadavanthara Police Detain Two Migrant Workers Over Hoax Bomb Threat
Kadavanthara police arrested two migrant workers from Idukki after a woman received a hoax bomb threat by phone on Aug 29, 2026.

The Kochi Police have arrested two migrant workers from Idukki in connection with a hoax bomb threat that disrupted normal life in Kadavanthara over the weekend. On Sunday, August 30, 2026, officers from the Kadavanthara police station took the two men into custody after a woman reported receiving a fake bomb threat call late Saturday night. The incident has raised concerns over public safety and the misuse of communication networks in Kerala’s commercial capital.
According to police sources, the threat was called in to a residential number in Kadavanthara around 11:30 PM on August 29. The caller, who allegedly used a disguised voice, claimed that a bomb had been planted in a public area and would explode imminently. Fearing panic and potential danger, local authorities initiated immediate precautionary measures, including restricting public movement and deploying bomb disposal squads. However, no explosives were found during subsequent searches.
Following a detailed investigation and verification of call records, Kadavanthara police traced the origin of the hoax call to an area in Idukki district. Based on these findings and witness statements, two migrant workers—identified as residents of Idukki—were detained for questioning. Police have not released their names or ages, citing ongoing legal procedures. Sources indicate that both individuals are laborers working in the region and were not known to local law enforcement prior to this incident.
The Kerala Police have condemned the hoax call as a serious breach of public order and a misuse of telecommunication services. Section 505(1)(b) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions under the Information Technology Act, 2000, may be invoked against the accused, as making false bomb threats is a cognizable offense punishable by imprisonment.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information during such emergencies. They have also assured that stringent action will be taken against anyone found involved in creating panic through false alerts.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for vigilance and responsible use of communication channels, especially in densely populated urban areas like Kochi.
