Delta Governor Oborevwori's Son Wedding Attracts Top Nigerian Leaders

In Asaba on Saturday, the Delta State capital hosted a high‑profile wedding that drew Nigeria’s political, traditional and business elite. The ceremony saw Sheriff Oborevwori’s son, Innocent Oborevwori, marry Tobore Arigbodi, daughter of Chief Brodericks Arigbodi, at Living Faith Church, Winners’ Chapel, Ibusa Road. The union, billed as a meeting of two families and histories, attracted more than a dozen state governors, members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers and senior business leaders from across the country.

Among the dignitaries were the governors of Kwara, Imo, Yobe, Edo, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Kogi, Ondo, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Niger states, as well as the deputy governor of Delta, Monday Onyeme, and counterparts from Ebonyi and Kano states. National Assembly members, including Senators Joel‑Onowakpo Thomas and Ede Dafinone, and former Delta governors James Ibori and Ifeanyi Okowa, also attended. The All Progressives Congress national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo were present, underscoring the event’s political gravitas.

Traditional leaders added cultural weight to the celebration. The Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (retired), the Olu of Warri, Atuwatse III, and the Dein of Agbor, Keagborekuzi II, were among the monarchs who graced the proceedings. First Ladies from Kwara, Kogi, Gombe, Taraba, Nasarawa, Cross River, Ekiti, Sokoto, Kaduna, Borno, Bauchi, Abia, Osun, Edo, and Imo states also attended, reflecting the ceremony’s nationwide appeal.

The wedding’s solemnisation was led by Pastor Shiyanbade Adekunle, who urged the newlyweds to build their marriage on wisdom, sacrificial love, mutual respect and commitment. Adekunle described wisdom as the “working capital of marriage,” encouraging the couple to rely on God and the Bible as they navigate married life.

The reception, hosted at Asaba’s Event Centre, was chaired by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani. “It is with profound joy and a deep sense of privilege that I stand before you today as chairman of this beautiful reception, celebrating a union that has brought together two families, two histories and two destinies in the sacred covenant of matrimony,” Sani said. He added that the wedding symbolised the coming together of families, histories and destinies, and urged the couple to build a home founded on peace, love, prayer and understanding. “May your home be a place of peace when the world is at war, a place of laughter when days are hard, and a place of prayer when challenges come,” he continued, wishing the couple a long, fruitful marriage.

The event, which drew dignitaries from diverse political parties, turned Asaba into a temporary nexus for Nigeria’s elite, highlighting the interweaving of political, religious and cultural spheres in the country’s social fabric. The wedding of Innocent Oborevwori to Tobore Arigbodi, therefore, was more than a personal celebration; it was a public display of unity and continuity across Nigeria’s political and traditional landscapes.
