Delhi Traffic Alert: BRICS 2026 Motorcade Rehearsal Causes 4-Hour Diversions

Delhi traffic police have announced a 4‑hour traffic diversion and regulation across more than 35 key roads in New Delhi from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today to accommodate a motorcade rehearsal for the BRICS Summit 2026, which will be hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan. The advisory urges commuters to plan alternate routes or use public transport, especially the Metro, to avoid congestion.

The BRICS Summit, scheduled for September 11‑13, will bring world leaders such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to New Delhi. The motorcade rehearsal is a preparatory exercise for the high‑profile gathering and will involve a tightly controlled traffic flow to ensure smooth movement of dignitaries and security forces.

According to the traffic advisory, vehicles travelling through several major intersections will be redirected. Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk, Mir Dard Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Janpath, Patel Chowk, RML Hospital roundabout, Vande Matram Marg, Dhaula Kuan Flyover, Moti Bagh Flyover, Brigadier Hoshiar Singh Marg, Madarsa T‑Point and Lodhi Road are among the routes that will see enforced diversions. Traffic heading toward Bharat Mandapam from Mathura Road will also be regulated, with vehicles directed through designated alternative paths.

Specific diversion measures include:

* At Dhaula Kuan Flyover, traffic bound for the airport and Gurgaon will be rerouted via NH‑48/Gurgaon Road, while other movements will use the Ring Road and Vande Matram Marg.
* At Moti Bagh Flyover, traffic to South‑West Delhi, IGI Airport and Gurgaon will be diverted through Rao Tula Ram Marg.
* Around Lodhi Road, Amrita Shergil Marg, Max Mueller Marg, Maharishi Raman Marg and Arch Bishop Macarius Marg will see additional detours.
* Traffic heading toward Bharat Mandapam from Mathura Road will be regulated at multiple points; vehicles bound for the Oberoi Hotel and Golf Link will follow a designated route near the Oberoi Flyover.
* At the U‑turn opposite DPS on Mathura Road, traffic toward Bharat Mandapam will be diverted through the Lodhi Flyover and the U‑turn underpass.
* At Mandi House, traffic from Feroz Shah Road, Bhagwan Das Road and Copernicus Marg will be directed toward Barakhamba Road for all Delhi zones.
* Traffic toward East, North, West, South and Central Delhi will be rerouted via Sikandra Marg.

Emergency and essential service vehicles will receive priority passage, while private vehicles are advised to avoid unnecessary travel through the affected routes. The Delhi Traffic Police have urged commuters to check real‑time updates and plan alternate routes well in advance to mitigate delays.

This traffic management exercise precedes the BRICS Summit 2026, which will bring together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa to discuss global economic and geopolitical issues. Prime Minister Modi’s hosting of the summit on September 12 and 13 underscores India’s growing role in international diplomacy. The presence of President Putin, President Xi and President Pezeshkian is expected to elevate the summit’s significance.
