Apple TV unveils Matthew McConaughey comedy series from ‘The Office’ alum

Apple TV+ has announced the premiere date for Brothers, a new original comedy series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. The series, which features both actors playing fictionalized versions of themselves, is set to launch globally on Wednesday, September 23.

The production will debut with two episodes on its premiere date, followed by a weekly release schedule concluding on November 4. Television writer and producer Lee Eisenberg serves as the showrunner for the series. Eisenberg previously served as a prominent writer and producer on the comedy series The Office during its second through sixth seasons.

The narrative of Brothers focuses on the long-standing friendship between McConaughey and Harrelson, which is upended when a secret regarding their parentage comes to light. The plot begins when Harrelson moves his family to McConaughey’s ranch in Austin, Texas, for an extended stay following the breakdown of his daughter's engagement.

During the visit, McConaughey's mother, played by actress Holland Taylor, accidentally reveals a long-hidden secret indicating that the two actors might actually be biological brothers. The storyline follows Harrelson as he attempts to investigate the truth behind the revelation, while McConaughey simultaneously navigates a personal identity crisis brought on by a potential political campaign for governor of Texas.

The launch of Brothers adds to an expanded fall programming slate for Apple TV+, which is currently airing the fourth season of its comedy series Ted Lasso. The streaming service has also slated several other titles for release in September, including a new season of the drama series Slow Horses, an original crime thriller titled Last Seen, and Mayday, an original feature film starring Ryan Reynolds.

Brothers will be available to all subscribers of Apple TV+. The streaming service is priced at $12.99 per month, with options for discounted access through the Apple One subscription bundle.
