Apple CarPlay gaining a new AI chatbot app before Siri AI arrives

Apple has expanded its in-car infotainment capabilities with the introduction of Meta AI to CarPlay, joining existing third-party chatbot integrations as Cupertino prepares for the broader rollout of Siri AI. The move reflects Apple’s ongoing strategy to enhance hands-free driving experiences through its iOS platform, with Meta AI now available alongside established options such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Grok.
The integration comes as part of Apple’s iOS 26.4 update, which enabled conversational AI apps on CarPlay. Meta AI’s CarPlay functionality is currently in a limited testing phase, according to user reports. While the app appears in the CarPlay interface, some users encounter a “Not supported” message when attempting to launch it. Attempts to bypass restrictions using a paid Meta AI account have not resolved the issue, suggesting that access may be gradually rolled out or tiered based on region or account status.
Siri AI is expected to officially join CarPlay with the release of iOS 27, which is currently available in beta and slated for public launch in September. Until then, drivers relying on conversational AI within CarPlay must depend on third-party solutions. Meta AI’s arrival on CarPlay follows its recent expansion to Mac, where the desktop version offers more advanced features compared to its mobile counterparts.
The integration of AI chatbots into CarPlay highlights Apple’s broader strategy of unifying its ecosystem across devices, allowing users to access familiar apps and services directly from their vehicle’s display. Unlike many built-in infotainment systems, CarPlay supports third-party applications, giving drivers more flexibility in how they interact with their phones while driving.
Other recent Apple product announcements include the AirTag 2, which adds Find My tracking to a wider range of items such as keys, bags, and bikes, and the AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3, Apple’s latest wireless headphones. The company has also introduced a Beats USB-A to USB-C cable and a wireless CarPlay adapter, further modernizing the in-car experience.
